About me

I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
My approach
I help people to feel better about themselves and empowered to make positive changes to their lives. Being truly heard (perhaps for the first time) by someone who will never judge, dictate to, or betray you, can be a profoundly healing experience. With growing trust and commitment, negative thoughts and feelings can be explored, understood and overcome. Regrets about the past and fears for the future can be replaced by fulfilment in the present.
My approach is integrative, drawing on different schools of thought, including psychodynamic, person-centred and cognitive/behavioural, to find what works best for each client, the issues that arise and the stage of our therapeutic relationship.
What I offer
I see clients in person (London NW11) and by Zoom. I offer a full initial session (50 minutes, free of charge) which is an opportunity to run through your reasons for seeking help, answer any questions you may have about therapy and, most importantly, give you an idea of whether we could work well together.
For therapy to be effective, you need to feel comfortable entrusting your therapist with your feelings, thoughts and experiences. After the initial session, I encourage potential clients to take all the time they need to decide whether to continue, recognising that people often talk to several therapists before choosing.
If you decide to go ahead, we would meet weekly, at least initially. Sometimes clients later move to fortnightly sessions, or at other intervals. There is no obligation to commit to a particular number of sessions.
While no list can be exhaustive, issues which I have been able to help clients to address include:
- Relationship problems
- Anxiety, including panic attacks, social anxiety, phobias, hypervigilance
- Depression, including suicidal feelings
- Obsessional thinking, including OCD and perfectionism
- Work issues like stress, burnout, “imposter syndrome”
- Grief, including bereavement and relationship breakdown
- Identity and self-esteem issues, such as sexuality, body image
- Isolation/loneliness
My qualifications and experience
I have a range of experience in different therapeutic settings. My main training was in an integrative approach, incorporating a variety of theoretical models. I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), the largest UK professional regulatory body for therapists.
- Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (CPCAB)
- Diploma in Counselling Skills
- Trained and experienced bereavement counsellor
- Agency, charity and private practice experience of open-ended and time-limited therapy
- Samaritans mentor and listening volunteer
- An earlier career in leadership roles in dispute resolution, ethics, communications and international relations for a major professional standards organisation has provided an insight into work-related issues.
